Overview of the Role
The Loadmaster is responsible for managing aircraft turnaround operations, including load control, ramp coordination, and cargo handling. This role ensures that aircraft remain within operational weight and balance limits while maintaining safety, efficiency, and compliance with aviation regulations.
The position also requires coordination with ground handling teams, network control, and third-party service providers to ensure smooth and timely flight departures.
Key Responsibilities
Aircraft Turnaround Management
- Coordinate aircraft turnaround activities to ensure timely departures.
- Act as the main liaison with third-party service providers.
- Work closely with network control to manage disruptions and delays.
Load Control and Weight Management
- Manage aircraft weight and balance calculations.
- Ensure cargo loading stays within operational safety limits.
- Prepare and provide the signed NOTOC (Notification to Captain) for special cargo.
Ramp and Cargo Operations
- Oversee ramp operations including aircraft loading and servicing.
- Ensure cargo and mail are inspected for suitability before transport.
- Supervise the safe handling of special cargo shipments.
- Handle Dangerous Goods, Live Animals, and sensitive cargo safely.
Aircraft Servicing Coordination
- Monitor external power supply servicing.
- Coordinate potable water servicing.
- Ensure catering services are completed on time.
- Monitor toilet servicing activities.
Security and Safety Compliance
- Ensure aircraft security checks are conducted properly.
- Control aircraft access to prevent unauthorized personnel onboard.
- Confirm no prohibited items are loaded onto the aircraft.
Operational Performance Monitoring
- Support freighter operations and performance improvement targets.
- Track Freighter On-Time Performance (OTP).
- Maintain Cargo IQ operational standards.
- Improve operational efficiency metrics.
Equipment and Cost Control
- Monitor Ground Handling Agent (GHA) use of Ground Service Equipment (GSE).
- Ensure compliance with contractual agreements.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities in cargo operations.
Education and Experience Requirements
Candidates applying for the Loadmaster position should meet the following qualifications:
- Secondary school certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in aviation cargo operations.
- Experience in Loadmaster operations, airline cargo operations, or ground handling services.
- Military cargo logistics experience is also valuable.
